Smarteq Antennas – a crucial link

The rapid development of wireless technology is constantly increasing the demand for antennas. Smarteq product portfolio covers built-in antenna systems in the premium automotive segment as well as antennas for automated meter readings, wireless communication etcetera. New antennas from Smarteq are designed according to customer specifications. We strive to design antennas that are environmentally friendly in the production process as well as when they are being scrapped. To verify antenna characteristics Smarteq uses a modern laboratory with a range of simulation and environmental testing equipment. Smarteq has a highly developed cost effective “Supply Chain" ranging all the way from production partners to the end customer. The quality management system for designing and producing antennas and antenna concepts are certified according to ISO TS 16949 and ISO 14001.

Antennas are the crucial link in a wireless system and overall performance is very important. Performance is not only the electric and mechanical specifications it is also important with   easy and quick to installations, this can lower the total cost. The specific surroundings and the reception quality of the installation area will also affect the choice of antenna. Our experience of antennas and especially installations for smart metering is something we gladly share. We have seen that the quality of the performance is much better if the installer has been trained.

Smart Metering

Within the Smart Metering segment we see very exciting future developments. In the past few years, we have been supplying the major part of the antennas used in the Scandinavian AMR market. Here on our home turf, we are the clear market leader.

Important contracts have been signed with Landis+Gyr, Telenor Cinclus, Itron, Kamstrup and Aidon. To date we have delivered more than one million antennas to the Smart Metering segment only in Sweden. Today Smarteq delivers antennas to many of the countries that roll's out Smart Metering projects. In Denmark Smarteq is involved in one of the first large roll-outs.  Our established processes and knowledge of high volumes and logistics come in handy within big roll-outs when it is often several different locations and logistic centres to supply.

Smart Meter Antenna - product portfolio

During the projects in Scandinavia, Smarteq has worked close together with the utilities, system suppliers and meter providers to create a specification for the antenna needs. Today we have a variety of antennas covering the actual needs at the installation places. The preferred solution is an internal antenna but due to the position of the meter (basement, metal cabin, bad reception area etc) an external antenna will be needed. For very critical installations a high gain antenna is needed.
